Season Ending Injury for Bautista Delguy

Los Jaguares have been dealt a major blow with a season ending injury confirmed for Bautista Delguy. The winger was injured in the first half during Saturday’s Super Rugby match against the Stormers in Cape Town.

In attempting to gather a kick Delguy collided in mid-air with Matías Moroni. The weight of Moroni came down on top of Delguy, bending his ankle awkwardly. With him in pain he was helped off the field and unable to return.

Following the match it was revealed that he would miss some matches though the worst fears have been realized as what had seemed to have been a minor injury is now a season ending one. He will not play again for four months which places his involvement in RWC 2019 in doubt.

Delguy and Ramiro Moyano are the incumbent starting wingers. Emiliano Boffelli played the majority of 2018 at fullback but is likely to be wing with Joaquín Tuculet playing at the back. Also on the roster is Sebastián Cancelliere while another player will now need to join the full-time roster.

The player most likely to step-up from the Argentina XV is Santiago Carreras. He was a stand-out at fullback in the Americas Rugby Championship.

A return in late July is presently the expected timeframe for Delguy. The Rugby Championship will begin on July 20, thereby being too soon for him to prepare with Los Pumas. Mario Ledesma will be looking to Juan Imhoff, and Santiago Cordero from Europe, both of whom met with the Head Coach last week.
