Woeful Jaguares Beaten Badly by Stormers

A woeful second half performance from Los Jaguares saw the Argentine Super Rugby franchise badly beaten by the Stormers. In a rare Friday fixture Los Jaguares fell to a 35-8 defeat to have the season record now standing at 2-3.

Despite the heavy loss the best early rugby was played by Los Jaguares. A solid drive resulted in an early score with winger Bautista Delguy touching down in the corner. The score would be as good as it would get all match for the Argentine side.

At the other end the Stormers hit-back to open their account with a penalty. yet this was of minor concern. Gonzalo Quesada and company had lost Delguy to injury following a collision with teammate Matías Moroni.

The Stormers would completely turn around the match. Penalties from Marais and a try to Daniel du Plessis saw the Stormers up 16-8 at half time. Los Jaguares were being outplayed and did not appear to be playing as well as against the Lions one week earlier.

In the second half South African captain pounced on an opportunity. Siya Kolisi’s score added insult to injury after Los Jaguares had bombed a try scoring opportunity of their own in the 42nd minute.

Kolisi’s score made it a 23-8 scoreline and Los Jaguares were unable to fight back. Instead the Stormers added another try with scrum-half Herschel Jantjies crossing. It gave the home side a 22 point lead which became worse when Justin Phillips went over to secure his side a bonus point victory.

The loss ends the two match South African tour for Los Jaguares. They now return to Buenos Aires battered and well beaten. They will have a much needed rest next weekend before returning in week 7 to play host to the Chiefs.
