Pro D2 – Week 24 Preview

Week 24 of the Pro D2 season gets underway today. The latest round of the French second division is to be another with a range of involvement of players from the Americas. The following preview documents their involvement.

The opening fixture is the only game today. It sees Mont de Marsan at home against Bayonne. Uruguayan scrum-half Agustín Ormaechea starts for the home side. Involved as replacements will be Leandro Cedaro, who is Argentine but is capped by Italy, and Jerónimo Negrotto.

On Friday Manuel Leindekar will start for Oyonnax who are at home against Aurillac. The Uruguayan second-rower is well placed to join Ormaechea in Los Teros’ RWC roster. Featuring for the visitors will be Pumita Bernard Reggiardo as a replacement.

Starting for Charente will be Joël Sclavi. The Argentine forward will be the run-on tight head prop for the team’s home match against Carcassonne. On the bench for the visitors will be Damian Panizzo, another Argentine forward.

With the season well and truly into the final stages teams are desperate for points. This is very true for Colomiers who are facing relegation. Starting for them on Friday against Montauban will be Sebastián Poet at fly half. Argentine flanker Martín Chiappesoni is to also be involved but as a replacement.

Near the Swiss border Bourg en Bresse play at home against Nevers. They are to do so with Damian Arias involved. The Argentine has been receiving plenty of game time despite arriving as a medical joker. Starting for Nevers will be the man many think will be Canada’s starting outside center for RWC 2019 Conor Trainor. He will wear the 13 shirt against Bressane.

Nevers and Bayonne are tied for top spot with 69 points, one ahead of Oyonnax. In fourth is with 64 points. Looking to upset them in the final Friday fixture will be Aix en Provence. Jamie Cudmore’s side have named Argentine Leandro Assi to start at tight head.

Week 24 will conclude on Sunday. The final fixture of the round sees Vannes playing on the road against Biarritz. Line-ups for this match will be announced on Saturday afternoon.
