Americas Rankings – March 10 2019

With the 2019 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) over the updated Americas Rankings show how the teams will remain until mid-year. Yet this weekend saw not only matches in the ARC but also a vital match in the Caribbean region. The March 10 2019 Americas Rankings reflect this in showing progress for Bermuda.

The Saturday afternoon clash between Bermuda and Jamaica saw the home side winning 43-14. It sees the teams trading 1.52 rankings points and with it Jamaica fall to an even 39 points in the rankings. It sees them now being 68th in the world rankings.

For Bermuda the win sees them moving up to 38.91 points. This represents a rise above Peru in the Americas Rankings. It also places Bermuda a mere 0.09 points below Jamaica.

Before Bermuda faced Jamaica there had already been a test match in the Americas this weekend. In Seattle the USA were narrow 30-25 winners over Canada. The final minute victory has no implications on the Americas Rankings. Had Canada won then they would have gained 2.0 points.

In South America there were two matches, the first of which saw Chile hosting the Argentina XV. With it being the ‘next of XV’ rather than Los Pumas no rankings points were on offer for either side.

In Montevideo rankings points were on the line but Uruguay’s 42-20 win over Brazil sees no change to the rankings of either. At half way Brazil were leading and were on course to gain 2.0 points. Instead Uruguay secured the win to gain no rankings points but obtain the goal of finishing second in the ARC.

The Americas Rankings will continue to be updated when international competition resumes. In the mean time attention will return to the domestic game.
