Guido Petti is staying put at Los Jaguares until 2021. The starting second-rower is the latest to agree to terms with the UAR to sign a new contract. The announcement came today just days after Mario Ledesma revealed he will be playing hard-ball with European clubs.
Aged 24 Petti has been a mainstay at the top since the age of 19. He made his test debut against Italy in Genova in 2014 and has remained on the roster and in the starting line-up ever since. This included him holding down a starting spot for Los Pumas at the age of 20 in a RWC.
During his test career he has been capped 45 times and is en route to reach 50 this year. Of his caps 28 have been in the starting line-up, usually alongside Jaguares colleague Tomás Lavanini. All but three have come under the captaincy of Agustín Creevy, another to have recently signed to remain at Los Jaguares.
Petti’s three most recent caps were in November under the leadership of Pablo Matera. He was named to replace Creevy as the national captain following his successful run in charge of Los Jaguares earlier on in the year. Matera no longer leads Jaguares with him instead playing his final season with the club before joining Stade Français in the Top 14.
Matera’s departure is a step back for Jaguares in what has otherwise when a series of advancements. Indeed in addition to Creevy and Petti remaining scrum-half Tomás Cubelli, center Matías Orlando, fullback Joaquín Tuculet, and fellow second-rower Matías Alemanno all recently signed new contracts to remain at Los Jaguares.
