Final rosters confirmed for Vancouver Sevens

The second half of the HSBC Sevens Series’ North American leg begins in Vancouver tomorrow with the fourth running of the event at BC Place. Good news came this week with confirmation that the Vancouver event has been approved for another four seasons by World Rugby.

Entering the tournament as both top seeds after winning in Las Vegas and overall series leaders, the USA have been forced to make one change to their roster. Danny Barrett misses out with a broken thumb. He should return in Hong Kong but in the meantime Joe Schroeder comes into the squad as forward cover.

Hosts Canada will have Pat Kay back in the lineup after he missed the Vegas trip. Josiah Morra will act as 13th man with Cooper Coats the one to miss out. It’s a tough draw for the Canadians who have in-form Vegas finalists Samoa along with Fiji and Kenya to contend with.

Chile have suffered a considerable blow with captain Felipe Brangier ruled out. Ignacio Silva takes over the leadership role but the team will not call a replacement from home, instead the only team in the tournament without a nominated 13th man.

It’s the same again for Argentina, who showed improvement in Vegas but at the same time continued to frustrate their fans with inconsistent effort. They will be looking for greater resolve this week despite continuing without usual captain Gastón Revol.

All matches can be watched on the CBC Sports website in Canada or ESPN in the rest of the Americas. Those located elsewhere can watch a live stream provided by World Rugby. A detailed fixture list can be seen here.
