Cubelli Signs New Deal to Remain at Jaguares

Just two days after making his debut for Los Jaguares Tomás Cubelli has signed a new deal to remain at the club until 2021. It is his second contract with his home union. His first came in July 2017 bringing him home to Buenos Aires from Canberra, Australia.

A serious injury suffered playing for Argentina against New Zealand in October 2017 resulted in Cubelli missing the entirety of the 2018 Super Rugby season. His fractured vertebrae required a long recovery which saw him training with the Argentina XV upon his return last April.

He would be fully fit for the Rugby Championship and would be named on the bench for the home win against South Africa in Mendoza. Starting the test was Gonzalo Bertranou who went to being the starting no 9 for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas under Mario Ledesma.

This would remain unchanged for the 2019 Super Rugby season only Bertranou would be injured in training after the opening round of the season. He has since he ruled out for the season with Cubelli and Martín Landajo now being the two fit specialist scrum-halves on the roster.

Cubelli was the starting scrum-half in round two against the Bulls. He would be named in the official Team of the Week based ons statistics as composed by SANZAAR. The debut performance came when needed most due to the loss of Bertranou. The former Bumbies no 9 is now set to be a center-point of the team’s campaign this season under Gonzalo Quesada.
