Americas Rankings – February 24 2019

The Americas Rankings have been updated following the completion of international competition this weekend. The February 24 2019 rankings take into account the results from the latest round of the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC).

There were three matches in round three, the first of which was played in Langford, British Columbia on Friday. Canada powered to a 56-0 win, a strong showing as they prepare for RWC 2019 in Japan. Despite gaining the maximum in terms of a 14+ point win there is no change to either team in the rankings due to the gulf between the sides going into the match.

In Buenos Aires the Argentina XV were 35-10 winners over Uruguay. The rankings were not on the line because the Argentina XV is the national ‘next of XV’ rather than the actual test side. Uruguay were missing 7 players to MLR duty and two others played in the Pro D2 this weekend.

In Austin, Texas the USA Eagles were 33-28 winners over Brazil. The game went down to the wire with Os Tupis mounting a scintillating comeback. The final result sees no change in the rankings for either based on their respective points pre-match. A win for Brazil would have seen them rising to a new all-time high of 23rd in the world.

The ARC will continue next weekend. In the two matches with rankings points on the line Brazil are to be at home against Chile in Jundiaí, São Paulo and the USA play host to Uruguay in Seattle, Washington.
