Three Americas players will take to the field at Heywood Road this weekend as Sale FC host Darlington Mowden Park in an English National One contest. It’s something of a derby with the two mid-table sides based in the North. Each have connections to Premiership sides, FC to their namesake – Sale Sharks – and Mowden Park to Newcastle Falcons.
Mowden Park will be led by Canadian flanker Matt Heaton, who has taken over the captaincy since returning from November’s World Cup Repechage competition. He has welcomed another Americas flanker this season in the form of Uruguay’s Franco Lamanna. The 2015 World Cup participant will be on the bench this week.
Lining up on the other side of the pitch is Robbie Povey. Capped three times by Canada as a flyhalf, the 22-year-old signed for Coventry in September but has now moved to Sale FC in search of game time. He will run out at fullback, where he also played for the Leicester ‘A’ side in the Premiership Rugby Shield competition earlier this season.
