Creevy turns down Top 14 to remain at Jaguares

Starting Argentine hooker and former captain Agustín Creevy has turned down offers from France to remain at Jaguares post RWC 2019. His new contract with the UAR will see him remaining at home until the end of 2021.

Having recently become a father, Creevy has decided to continue his professional rugby career in Argentina. The 33-year-old has been among the top performers for Jaguares and Argentina both before and since RWC 2015.

Since the addition of Los Jaguares into Super Rugby Creevy has made 43 appearances. Of these 40 have been in the starting line-up and he has a return of 12 tries.

Creevy was the captain of Los Jaguares in 2016, and 2017. His replacement was Pablo Matera who will move to France following the RWC to play for Stade Français. Matera also replaced Creevy as captain of Los Pumas in 2018 and is to lead his country in Japan later on this year. For the 2019 Super Rugby campaign, however, the captain is Jerónimo de la Fuente.

For Los Pumas Creevy has 83 caps, including appearances in two RWCs. Remarkably he converted from flanker to hooker following his first professional stint which was with Biarritz in France. He became a professional in 2007 while his test debut was against Japan in 2005.

Under Creevy for Los Jaguares and Pumas is Julián Montoya, a player who has amassed 51 caps with just four coming in the starting line-up. His most recent start was against Namibia in RWC 2015. A similar scenario is likely for RWC 2019 with Montoya a candidate to start against Tonga, and the USA.
