ARC Highlights – Argentina XV vs USA

The Argentina XV achieved a first ever win over the USA in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) on Saturday. The 45-14 victory gives the  a 2-0 record with maximum competition points. The Eagles, meanwhile, are 1-1 and now require somebody to defeat the Argentina XV or they will be unable to retain their ARC title.

The match featured an explosive start from the Argentina XV. Back-to-back tries in the opening minutes had the Eagles rattled. More would follow as would a red card to Eagles center Paul Lasike. It meant the match was over as a contest long before its completion.

The players involved for the Argentina XV are the same who are to be the Argentine side in South Africa’s Currie Cup. An official announcement is expected within weeks confirming the Pampas XV in this year’s competition.

There were many strong performers for the Argentina XV on Saturday. Standing out above the rest, however, was left winger Julián Domínguez. He scored a try and assisted in others in both the first and second half. He may miss out on the Currie Cup to instead play for Los Jaguares.
