Americas Rankings – February 10 2019

There were four international matches in the Americas this weekend. With them out of the way the Americas Rankings have been updated to reflect the changes. The February 10 2019 rankings show Brazil, and the Cayman Islands gaining points.

In George Town on Saturday the Cayman Islands were at home against Guyana. The fixture was no ordinary match. On the line was the 4th, and final, place in the 2019 Americas Rugby Challenge (ARCh) tournament. The Caymans impressed to claim the spot, routing the Green Machine 58-14.

The comprehensive Caymans victory sees them taking the maximum rankings points. With it they gain 0.548 points to move up one place above Trinidad & Tobago in the Americas Rankings. Guyana lose points but remain ranked 12th in the Americas.

Friday’s test match in Montevideo saw Uruguay completing a 20-5 victory over Chile. Despite Los Teros finishing with the maximum  win of a 14+ victory there is no alteration in the ranking of either competitor. This is based on Uruguay being ranked notably higher than Chile.

In the tropical heat of São José dos Campos Brazil were 18-10 winners over Canada. The upset sees Os Tupis claiming the maximum of 1.28 points. This sees Canada falling to 21st join the world rankings below Spain. Brazil rises to 26th above Germany and is now behind Hong Kong by the narrowest of margins. The updated rankings are Canada with 61.36 points, and Brazil with 58.10. Neither move overall positions in the Americas Rankings.

In Patagonia the Argentina XV were 45-12 winners over the USA. The fixture did not count towards rankings due to one of the two teams not being the national test side. As such the USA’s rankings points have not been changed.
