Castres captain Rodrigo Capó Ortega has been sidelined through injury. The Uruguayan has been ruled out of playing rugby for two or three months. His injury has been diagnosed as a herniated disc.
The two-time Top 14 champion underwent surgery in France on Tuesday. His return to the field will come in time for the run-in to the Top 14 play-off’s. The 38-year-old has played for Castres since 2002 and is among the all-time great imported players in the league.
With 41 caps for Uruguay it is hoped that Capó Ortega has it in him to appear in RWC 2019. He played in RWC 2003, playing in all four of Uruguay’s matches. This included scoring a try against Samoa and putting-in an unforgettable tackle on England’s Lawrence Dallaglio.
Capó Ortega captained Uruguay in the qualifying campaign for RWC 2007. After an absence he returned to represent his country in the RWC 2015 qualifiers, proving a key player in the repechage series triumph over Russia. He again returned for the RWC 2019 qualifiers, helping Uruguay overcome Canada home-and-away to qualify as Americas 2 for the first time in history.
In RWC 2019 Uruguay will face Australia, Fiji, Georgia, and Wales. Cape Ortega’s experience, leadership, and abilities are to be sought for the highly challenging campaign.
