Chile name squad to face Uruguay

Pablo Lemoine has named a group of 25 players in his Chile squad to prepare for Friday’s match against Uruguay in the second round of the Americas Rugby Championship. Los Cóndores are looking to improve in their 71-8 thrashing at the hands of the USA in Maipú this past weekend.

Dropping out of the squad are loosehead prop Francisco Pizarro and fullback Tomás Ianiszewski. Both started against the Eagles but were replaced during the first half.

Called in are three uncapped players including two props – Mauricio Gómez and Marcelo Huerta. The latter is the younger brother of midfielder Christian who made his debut against the USA. Old Lions eightman Camilo Sánchez also has a chance to make his international debut.

Replacing Ianiszewski in the backs is veteran sevens standout Pablo Metuaze. The two-time Pan-Am Games participant has won four caps previously in XVs for the Cóndores but it has been a long time since his last, with all four coming during the 2011 South American Championship.

Chile last defeated Uruguay in a test match in May of 2015. Los Teros are coming into the match in Montevideo with great confidence having beaten Canada 20-17 this past weekend despite playing much of the match with only 14 players.
