NOLA sign Eagles flanker Lamborn

The New Orleans Gold sent another ripple through Major League Rugby on Tuesday afternoon. Already off to a perfect start in the new season, NOLA have confirmed the signature of US Eagles flanker Tony Lamborn. He joins the team from the Southland Stags in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Born in New Zealand to an American father, the 27-year-old made his test debut in June 2016 against Italy. He has since won 18 caps while establishing himself as first choice openside. Lamborn is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained while playing against Romania in November.

Prior to captaining Southland, Lamborn spent five seasons with the Hawke’s Bay Magpies in New Zealand’s provincial competition. He spent the 2016 Super Rugby season with the Hurricanes, appearing in four matches as a replacement. He joined the San Diego Legion during the inaugural MLR season but played only two matches due to injury.

It’s not immediately clear when Lamborn will be available to NOLA who are currently shorthanded due to injuries and international call-ups. Kyle Baillie and Cam Dolan are on Americas Rugby Championship duty while Vince Jobo suffered an arm injury in the season opener against Toronto and Zack Stryffeler was forced off early against Glendale.
