Major League Rugby welcomed a new venue in Dell Diamond on Saturday as Austin Elite welcomed the Houston SaberCats to their new home in an all-Texas derby. The weather gods were angry, sending most of the 1,600 in attendance to find cover while the players dealt with the torrential rain.
While the conditions made running rugby impossible, the match did enjoy some big moments and there were no shortage of collisions. The scrum battle was also intriguing as the all-Irish front row of Houston went head-to-head with French loosehead Simon Courcoul and Uruguayan tighthead Juan Echeverría.
