Eagles take silver in Hamilton

The US Eagles made it three straight Cup Final appearances on the HSBC Men’s Sevens Series as they defeated Scotland and New Zealand in succession on Day Two of the Hamilton Sevens. Fiji ultimately proved superior with a one-sided 38-0 result to claim the Gold but the Silver finish leaves the two sides tied at the top of the overall standings with 57 points.

After three quick scores in the first half the Eagles were forced to hang on for dear life against Scotland in the Quarter Final. They took a precarious 12-7 lead over New Zealand into the final minute when Carlin Isles showed a clean pair of heels to the defense down the blindside to seal their spot in the final.

Canada were no match for the Fijians in the Cup Quarter Final and their weekend would end early against Samoa in the 5th Place Semi Final. Pat Kay was a standout performer and the points earned in Hamilton bumps the team up one spot from 12th overall to 11th.

Argentina cruised through their opening match of the day against Japan with Mateo Carreras claiming two tries and Lautaro Bazán Vélez collecting 15 points in the 35-0 win. Their tourney would also end early as they crashed out in the Trophy Semi Finals, causing them to slip one spot from 8th to 9th overall.

The Series continues in Sydney next weekend.
