Uruguay confirm squad for Jaguares match

Esteban Meneses has confirmed a squad of 29 players to represent Uruguay in the friendly against the Jaguares in Montevideo on Thursday. Los Teros will face the Super Rugby franchise at the newly renovated Estadio Charrúa as part of their preparations for the upcoming Americas Rugby Championship.

Seven players from the original list of 33 have dropped out of the squad. Tighthead prop Juan Rombys and hooker project Manuel Ardao continue to recover from injuries suffered on the November tour, while there is no place for uncapped trio Felipe Aliaga, Juan Manuel Rodríguez, and Santiago Civetta. Midfielders Marcos Brovetto and Mateo Mari are also left out.

Called up as replacements are hooker Facundo Gattas, second row Ignacio Dotti, and scrumhalf Joaquin Alonso. Dotti arrives from New Orleans and makes it seven Major League Rugby players in the squad. The addition of Alonso could allow Tomás Inciarte and Santiago Piñeyrúa to play elsewhere in the backs, with Inciarte also comfortable in the midfield and Piñeyrúa an option on the wing.

Kickoff is set for 8:10pm local time (6:10pm ET). A live broadcast will be available on ESPN.
