Fernández stars as Clermont thrash Dragons

Patricio Fernández starred as Clermont Auvergne thrashed the Dragons 49-7 in Challenge Cup action on Friday evening. The Argentine flyhalf scored the first try himself, picking up a loose pass and running it in from halfway. Fernández used his strength to open holes in the defense and landed all seven conversions for a personal haul of 19 points.

Clermont were in complete control, running up a 49-0 scoreline before conceding a single try in the 78th minute. The bonus-point win gave them the maximum 30 points from their six pool games and making them clear favorites heading into the knock-out stages. They will play Northampton Saints in the Quarter Finals at the end of March.
