Champions Cup – Round 6 Preview

And over to the big cheese – the Champions Cup. European campaigns will be defined based on some of this weekend’s results. A compelling match between Edinburgh and Montpellier at Murrayfield starts this off on Friday. Juan Pablo Socino is on the bench for the Scottish side hoping to claim their spot in the Quarter Finals.

Meanwhile his brother Santiago Socino is named as a reserve hooker for Newcastle Falcons as they host Toulon at Kingston Park. Both teams have already been bounced out so it’s just bragging rights going to the winner. Facundo Isa has been rested by the visitors.

A heavyweight tilt on Saturday sees DTH van der Merwe and the Glasgow Warriors heading to Allianz Park to face Saracens. The winner will take top spot in Pool 3 with the loser still almost certainly into the Quarter Finals as one of the top runners-up.

It’s a bench role for Facundo Gigena as Leicester Tigers host Ulster at Welford Road. Only the visitors have the playoffs on their mind. The other half of Pool 4 is a similar situation where Juan Imhoff and Racing 92 host Scarlets, the latter already eliminated from contention.

Exeter Chiefs will have Santiago Cordero on the wing against Munster at Thomond Park. The home side have US-eligible prop Jeremy Loughman on the bench. Castres will host Gloucester with none of their Americas trio on the match day roster.
