Paul Mullen returns to SaberCats

Paul Mullen will be wearing a Houston SaberCats jersey once again in 2019. The US Eagles prop returns having spent three months in the UK on contract with Newcastle Falcons. After just one Premiership appearance and two games with Doncaster Knights on loan, he played all three tests in November before visiting family on his native Aran Islands.

The 27-year-old has quickly established himself as the USA’s first choice tighthead since making his debut against Russia in June of last year. Mullen has played all six tests since. Injuries limited his involvement with Houston in the 2018 Major League Rugby season to just three appearances.

With confirmation of Uruguay pair Diego Magno and Alejandro Nieto the SaberCats forward recruitment appears complete. The backs remain thin, however, with the only additions confirmed thus far Teros scrumhalf Santiago Arata and NYAC outside back Joe Kelly. West Houston center Irving Carcamo and winger Rodrick Waters appeared on the bench this past weekend against Austin.
