RFU Championship – Week 11 Preview

We reach the midpoint of the Greene King IPA Championship season with all teams in action on one weekend for the first time since October. It’s an unusual calendar this season and certainly one that requires revision ahead of next year.

Two top-four teams will go head-to-head on Saturday as Bedford host Ealing at Goldington Road. A pair of Eagles are on opposite sides as Ben Landry is on the Trailfinders bench. Will Hooley starts for the home side at flyhalf with Canadian flanker Justin Blanchet in reserve.

Shane O’Leary will look to continue his fine form for Nottingham on their challenging road trip to Jersey. He’ll have former England wing Tom Varndell alongside this week on loan from Leicester.

Doncaster have struggled this season and a road win at Coventry could be just what the doctor ordered to stave off the relegation threat. Nick Civetta will be a key man in their second row.

After a great start to the season Cornish Pirates have cooled somewhat but have a chance to start 2019 on the right foot as they face lowly Yorkshire Carnegie at Headingley. Brett Beukeboom leads the side with Javier Rojas and Matt Evans named as replacements.

The top team in the league is London Irish, who sit once spot above Ealing with nine wins from ten. They will face semi-pro outfit Richmond. There will be only one Eagle in the midfield at the Madejski, and it will be Ronnie McLean as Irish have opted to rest Bryce Campbell.
