Pools Confirmed for 2019 Viña del Mar 7’s

The pools have been confirmed for the 2019 Viña del Mar 7’s. The Chilean city will play host to the second leg of the 2019 Sudamérica Rugby Series competition on January 13-14.

The 2019 Seven Viña falls one weekend after the 2019 Seven Punta. Played this weekend in the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este Chile made history by winning the tournament, defeating Argentina 7-5 in a low scoring tournament final.

Chile will compete in Pool A of the Seven Viña. Los Cóndores 7’s are to be up against South Africa, Uruguay and Brazil. With Uruguay the only team realistically standing in the way of Chile qualifying for the 2019 Jong Kong, Vancouver, and Las Vegas 7’s tournaments the match between Chile and Uruguay will be pivotal.

In Pool B South America meets North America as Argentina and Colombia are to be joined by the USA and Canada. Los Pumas 7’s will enter the group as favorites and will be looking for improvement after falling short in the tournament final in Punta del Este.

In Pool C Paraguay is the lone country from South America. The three remaining participants are all Europeans. Portugal lead the group based on finishing third at the Seven Punta. The Portuguese defeated Germany to claim the third placed finish. They will meet again in Viña del Mar with Russia completing the pool.
