Tevaughn Campbell signs NFL contract with Jets

Tevaughn Campbell won’t be suiting up for Canada on the HSBC Sevens Series any time soon. The 25-year-old speedster has signed a contract with the New York Jets of the NFL. It’s his second crack at the league, having previously had trials with Washington and the New York Giants in 2015.

Campbell began training with the Canadian sevens side in early 2017 after being recruited to the sport by Robin McDowell. Since then he maintained his CFL career with the Montreal Alouettes but in the off-season continued playing rugby, appearing on five stops during the 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series.

Canada coach Damian McGrath had left the door open for a potential return this season, and Campbell would surely be welcomed with open arms should the NFL not work out. Earlier this season Adam Zaruba returned to the rugby field after missing last season to pursue a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
