Gómez Kodela Scores in Big Win Over Agen

Francisco Gómez Kodela scored for Lyon today in what was a big win over Agen. Lyon were 52-20 winners, scoring seven tries to three. The former Argentine test prop started the match for Lyon at tight head.

Aged 33, Gómez Kodela is one of Argentina’s longest-serving professional props in Europe. He is also among the best in the key area of the scrum. A Puma from 2008-2013 he earned 11 test caps. Despite a long time without selection he is very well placed for RWC 2019 selection.

For Lyon today’s win sees Lyon continuing to press for a place in the 2018-2019 Top 14 play-off’s. The club has opted to sacrifice the European Champions Cup to focus entirely on the Top 14.

With half, or 13, matches played Lyon is well positioned. The club has 36 competition points, matching that of Stade Français in jointly occupying 5th position.

For Agen today’s defeat sees the club needing to find a means of improvement. At the mid-way stage of the Top 14 season Agen is in 13th position, ahead only of Perpignan. Avoiding relegation to the Pro D2 will be the firm objective of the club for the remainder of the season.
