Peterson leaves Glasgow for Bordeaux

US Eagles lock Greg Peterson has left the Glasgow Warriors with immediate effect to take up a spot with Bordeaux Bègles. He joins the French Top 14 club as a medical joker for Jandré Marais. The South African lock is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Peterson’s contract with Glasgow was due to expire at the end of the season. He has been granted an early release after seeing little first team action under Dave Rennie since the New Zealander took over prior to the 2017-18 season.

Under previous coach Gregor Townsend, Peterson had seen regular time in the squad until injuries severely hampered in 2016-17 campaign. He is the second lock to leave the club mid-season following the departure of Brian Alainu’uese to Toulon.

In Bordeaux, Peterson finds himself at a similarly competitive club that currently sits in 5th place on the Top 14 ladder and within three points of 3rd place La Rochelle. They are not, however, in the Champions Cup, a sub-par season in 2017-18 relegating them to the Challenge Cup in European competition.

Peterson originally joined Glasgow ahead of the 2015-16 season, joining after playing for Leicester for a brief period following the 2015 World Cup. The former Australia u20 cap has since become a regular in the Eagles match day lineups, earning a starting role in November under Gary Gold.
