Leonardo Senatore Leaves Jaguares

After three seasons of Super Rugby Leonardo Senatore has officially left Los Jaguares. The Argentine no 8 is to return to where it all began with his home club of GER in Rosario.

Senatore is the big name missing from the roster for Los Jaguares for the 2019 Super Rugby season. His decision to return home to Rosario comes following a complicated year in which Mario Ledesma converted Javier Ortega Desio from flanker to no 8 for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas.

Senatore was unable to make Ledesma’s test roster. In the recent November Internationals he played for a World XV against Japan rather than tour with Los Pumas. His final cap was his 50th which came under Daniel Hourcade against Scotland in June.

Argentina’s remaining test matches between now and RWC 2019 are to come in the form of a reduced Rugby Championship and a warm-up match against South Africa. Senatore’s decision to leave Los Jaguares all but confirms his non-involvement, thus the end of his test career.

Expected back is Facundo Isa. The Toulon back-rower departed Argentina for France in 2017, a move which impacted on his test match selection. He nonetheless is Argentina’s leading no 8 and widely expected to start against France in Los Pumas’ RWC 2019 opener.

Isa and Senatore were both original Jaguares. Both played for Toulon with Senatore also playing professional rugby in England for Worcester. With Los Jaguares he made 27 appearances, scoring 6 tries.
