Powerful Pumas 7’s Named for Punta del Este

Los Pumas Head Coach Santiago Gómez Cora has named a powerful roster to compete in Punta del Este, Uruguay on January 05-06. The 2019 Seven Punta is to be the opening competition of 2019 and the first of two events in the Sudamérica Rugby Sevens.

Gómez Cora has named both Rodrigo Etchart, and Fernando Luna. They are both back after recovering from injuries. Also included are fellow big name players Gastón Revol, Santiago Álvarez Fourcade, and Santiago Mare while Juan Martín González, and Nicolás Roger make the jump from the junior side which won Gold at the Junior Olympics this year in Buenos Aires.

The 2019 Seven Punta will be followed by the second leg of the circuit in Viña del Mar, Chile. For the event Gómez Cora has named a youthful roster. Marcos Moneta, Tomas Vanni, Marcos Elicagaray join the above mentioned junior players. There are also places for regular Los Pumas 7’s players Renzo Barbier, and Máximo Provenzano.

Gómez Cora and the team will travel to Uruguay on January 03. The following Monday, January 07 the roster will return to Argentina to train in Pinamar.

The Punta del Este, and Viña del Mar events are to be followed by rounds three and four of the World Sevens Series. Los Pumas 7’s will compete in Hamilton, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia over consecutive weekends on January 26-27 and February 02-03 2019.
