Tuculet Remaining At Jaguares On Long-Term Basis

On a monuments day for Argentine rugby it has been confirmed that Joaquín Tuculet has signed a new contract with the UAR. The fullback will remain at Los Jaguares on a long-term basis until the end of 2021.

Tuculet was one of two big names off contract at the end of 2018. Both he and former captain, Agustín Creevy today penned new contracts to remain in Argentina.

Creevy and Tuculet held down starting positions in RWC 2015 and are well on track to again be central for Argentina in RWC 2019. Both became Jaguares following careers playing abroad in Europe.

From 2011-2015 Tuculet played in the English Premiership, Top 14 and Pro 14 competitions. He did so for the Sale Sharks, Grenoble, Bordeaux, and the Cardiff Blues.

Now aged 29 the fullback from La Plata is to turn 30 five weeks before the opening match of RWC 2019. Between now and then he will be back to full fitness after recovering from knee surgery which saw him sidelined throughout the 2018 international season.

Capped 51 times by Argentina, Tuculet has been a permanent member of Pumas rosters since November 2012. His debut came earlier that year against Italy. 48 of his caps have been in the starting line-up, all but one came at fullback and he has a return of 16 tries.

In his three seasons with Los Jaguares Tuculet has made 36 appearances in Super Rugby, scoring 7 tries. With him injured in May 2018 Emiliano Boffelli made the move from left wing to fullback and went on to hold down the position for both Los Jaguares and Los Pumas.
