Canada’s Doug Fraser signs for Austin Elite

Doug Fraser is the newest Canadian to sign on for Major League Rugby. Originally reported by BC Rugby News, the Ladysmith, BC, native confirmed to Americas Rugby News that he will suit up for Austin Elite in the upcoming season.

A midfielder with 3 test caps to his name, all starts, Fraser’s low center of gravity makes him difficult to bring down and his hard-hitting defense has won the respect of many opponents in the CDI Premier League. He joins Austin from Castaway Wanderers and will find two fellow Canadians at the team in brothers Josh and Travis Larsen.

The 26-year-old has also been a standout in the Canadian Rugby Championship with the BC Bears. Fraser was most recently part of Canada’s roster for the World Cup Repechage tournament in France though he did not make an appearance in the three test matches.

Austin now boast an impressive quartet of international center options. Incumbent skipper Andrew Suniula is a returnee with Uruguay’s Andrés Vilaseca recently arriving and France Sevens cap Simon Bienvenu joining the team from Top 14 club Racing 92.
