Racing 92 remain undefeated in the 2018-2019 European Champions Cup. Scoring two tries in today’s win was Juan Imhoff. The Argentine flier scored in both halves of the away match against the Leicester Tigers in England.
Today’s 34-11 victory underlines the Top 14 side as Champions Cup title contenders. For the Leicester Tigers it makes an 8th consecutive defeat and the club remains winless this season in the Champions Cup.
Imhoff’s first try came in the 13th minute. He ran a support line to Irish fullback Simon Zebo who broke clear though the midfield. The try gave Racing 92 a then 14-6 lead.
Imhoff’s second try came in the final minute. The Argentine speedster went over untouched following a break from replacement scrum half Maxime Machenaud.
Today’s two tries increase Imhoff’s total number of tries as a professional rugby player to 102. He is Argentina’s first ever player to reach 100 and is behind two other Americas’ wingers – DTH van der Merwe and Taku Ngwenya. Both players have 109 to their names.
Capped 35 times by Argentina, Imhoff is expected to play in RWC 2019. This is the case despite his last cap having been in RWC 2015. Argentina’s policy of only selecting from home was used from 2016-2018. Mario Ledesma ended it for the 2018 Rugby Championship.
