European Champions Cup – Week 4 Preview

Week 4 of the European Champions Cup begins today. In the fourth of six rounds of the regular season matches will be played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The following preview documents the involvement of players from the Americas.

In the opening fixture Gloucester are at home against the Exeter Chiefs. In the English derby match-up the visitors are looking for revenge after flopping badly last weekend. A shining light in the dour performance was Santiago Cordero. The Argentine speedster again starts this weekend.

On Saturday the Cardiff Blues host Saracens in Wales. The home side has named two USA Eagles in their run-on team. Blaine Scully will play right wing while Samu Manoa starts on the side of the scrum at flanker. Puma Juan Figallo will feature for the English side as the team’s replacements tight head prop.

In France a Canadian and an Argentine will start for Castres against Munster. Taylor Paris will play left wing while Benjamín Urdapilleta will pull the strings at fly half.

On Sunday the Leicester Tigers host Racing 92. They are to do so with Argentine props Facundo Gigena, and Gastón Córtes have been named as the Tigers’ replacement props. Starting for the Top 14 side will be Juan Imhoff on the left wing.

Further north the Newcastle Falcons will face Scottish side Edinburgh. Named again on the bench for the Scots is Juan Pablo Socino. He is to again face his former club. His brother, Santiago Socino, will not be involved in the Sunday fixture.
