Boffelli, Matera and Sánchez Nominated for Olimpia de Plata

Three players – Emiliano Boffelli, Pablo Matera, and Nicolás Sánchez have been nominated for the Olimpia de Plata. The nominees were chosen by Argentine sporting journalists who determined that the trio were Argentina’s finest rugby players in 2018.

Boffelli played 12 test matches for Argentina in 2018. He scored three tries and also kicked two penalties. In Super Rugby Boffelli scored ten tries, the same number as rookie Bautista Delguy. They were the 6th highest-scorers for the season overall. Boffelli was also the most dangerous carrier, making 28 clean breaks for the season.

Matera replaced Agustín Creevy as captain of Los Jaguares. With him wearing the captain’s arm-band the Argentine side enjoyed their best season, reaching the play-off’s for the first time. He led by example and would become Pumas captain in November.

Sánchez was the leading point scorer in the Rugby Championship with 67 points. He became Argentina’s all-time top scorer when he overtook Felipe Contepomi. In Super Rugby he was the 5th highest scorer with 161 points.

Boffelli was the winner of the award in 2017 while Sánchez won in 2015. Should Matera win this year it would be his first Olimpia de Plata.
