Deion Mikesell signs for Clermont Academy and NOLA Gold

US Eagles winger Deion Mikesell has joined Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne on a four month academy contract. The Lindenwood standout has landed in France already and could suit up for the Espoirs this coming weekend.

At the end of the short-term deal he will return stateside to join the New Orleans Gold for the remainder of the 2019 Major League Rugby season. There he will join an impressive young cast of All-American talent already secured by NOLA.

Clermont have indicated that this may be the first of several such arrangement for the club, who intend to further explore the American talent pool. They previously had Life West midfielder Mose Fuala’au in their Academy system. He left the program at the end of last season.

Mikesell became the fourth-youngest person to be capped by the Eagles when he debuted in the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship against Uruguay. He won a second cap against Brazil in the 2017 ARC.
