Two Canadians have reached historic scoring marks at the Cape Town Sevens. Nathan Hirayama and Justin Douglas each celebrated special moments in their careers on Saturday.
Hirayama became just the fourth person in HSBC Sevens Series history to reach the 1,500 points plateau. His third conversion against Wales put him on the mark and he add another 9 points before the tournament end. Only England try-scoring star Dan Norton is ahead among active players, with their captain Tom Mitchell close behind.
In the same game against Wales Douglas scored two tries, the first of which moved him out of a tie with Sean Duke and into the lead for all-time tries scored by a Canada player on the circuit. He finished the tournament with 126, two ahead of Duke (124) and three ahead of Hirayama (123). John Moonlight is the 4th leading try scorer for Canada at 116.
Douglas is now 21st on the all-time Series list, one behind England’s Mitchell and former Samoa powerhouse Alafoti Fa’osiliva. The USA have three players ahead on the chart – Carlin Isles, Zack Test, and Perry Baker – with Argentina contributing former all-time leader Santiago Gómez Cora.
