Victor Comptat official for SaberCats

The Houston SaberCats have officially signed second row Victor Comptat for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. At 2.04m (6’8″) the 22-year-old is one of the tallest players in the competition and fills a gap left by the departure of the even taller Justin Allen, who has joined Rotherham Titans in the RFU Championship.

Comptat started every game for Austin Elite in their inaugural campaign, forming a potent lineout combination with Ben Mitchell. The USA u20 international has most recently been playing in the French Fédérale 1 with Bédarrides. He was previously part of academy sides at Brive and Massy Essonne.

In other news tighthead prop Adam Macklin has confirmed his retirement on social media. The former Ireland u20 cap started seven games for Houston in 2018. He could be replaced by a reputable returnee – US Eagles starter Paul Mullen has been released from his contract with Newcastle Falcons and is currently visiting family on the Aran Islands.
