European Champions Cup – Round 3 Preview

The European Champions Cup resumes today. The finest teams from England, France and the Pro 14 will battle it out in the race to be crowned champions.

In Scotland on Friday Edinburgh will have home advantage against the Newcastle Falcons. Former Falcon Juan Pablo Socino has been named on the bench for Edinburgh while his brother Santiago Socino is to feature as a replacement for Newcastle. bench

On Saturday there are to be five matches. In the first of these Santiago Cordero will play right wing for the Exeter Chiefs. The Argentine speedster was named as one of the leading players in the English Premiership last month.Exeter are at home against Gloucester in a West Country derby.

Saturday is to also to be bitter-sweet for Argentine fans. Playing his final match of rugby will be Manuel Carizza. The 34-year-old decided to retire this week, putting an end to a marvelous professional career which began in 2005 and has continued until today seeing him win titles in France, Europe and South Africa.

Carizza is to start at lock against Glasgow. The opposition are to have two Americas wingers in their side. Canadian international DTH van der Merwe starts on the left wing while the Tennessee-born Scottish international Tommy Seymour will play right wing.

On Sunday in Ireland Munster receive Castres. The fixture will also see a Canadian winger starting, but this time for the French club. Taylor Paris will play left wing for Castres who are to also have Benjamín Urdapilleta starting. He will play fly half.

In Wales the Cardiff Blues expect a full-house to host Saracens. Two Eagles have been named to start for the home side. Blaine Scully will play on the right wing while Samu Manoa is to start the match at the back of the scrum in the 8 shirt.

In the final fixture Racing 92 host Leicester Tigers in Paris. Starting for the hosts will be Juan Imhoff, in his usual position of left wing. Named on the bench for the Tigers is Gastón Cortes, a player to have earned a cap this year for Argentina.
