Houston sign Australian flanker Beauchamp

The Houston SaberCats have added more depth to their back row stocks with the signing of Australian flanker Luke Beauchamp. A veteran of more than 100 games for Brisbane club Brothers, the 26-year-old won a Queensland Premier division title in 2016 and captained the side this past season.

Beauchamp played for three seasons in Australia’s National Rugby Championship, their regional professional competition, before a serious knee injury knocked him out for the entire 2017 season. After more than 12 months on the sidelines he returned to fitness earlier this year and has now opted for a new challenge in Major League Rugby.

After losing captain Kyle Sumsion in the off-season to New York, Houston have added Mathew Faoagali along with Uruguay’s Alejandro Nieto and Germany international Ayron Schramm to an impressive stable of loose forwards. Beauchamp is set to compete for a blindside spot with returnees Chris Coyle and Cecil Garber options on the openside.
