Canada defeated Hong Kong on Friday to qualify for next year’s Rugby World Cup. In doing so the North Americans claimed the 20th, and final, place at Japan 2019. The win saw Canada going undefeated in repechage to be clear winners of the tournament which also involved Germany, and Kenya.
Attention now quickly turns to Japan 2019. Awaiting Canada is a pool that will have the team organizers smiling about. Canada will face powerhouses New Zealand and South Africa but also take-on the bottom seeds Namibia and Italy, a side presently struggling.
In qualifying Canada maintains the proud record of having competed at every RWC. Hong Kong are yet to qualify but both them and Germany gave Canada good matches in the repechage series.
