Spain call for Colombian Mauricio Londoño Guañarita

Spain have called-up Colombian Mauricio Londoño Guañarita. The winger has been added to the roster to face Samoa this coming Saturday.

Los Leones are looking to make amends for their RWC qualifying disqualification. They are straight back to work and are developing a roster for RWC 2023.

This past weekend they played at home against Namibia. The Africa 1 RWC qualifier joined Spain in debuting at RWC 1999. The difference between the two, however, is Namibia have played at all subsequent RWCs while Spain’s 1999 appearance remains are their only one.

Against Namibia Spain recorded an impressive 34-13 victory. This was with a new-look team, one below the strength of that which impressed in the Rugby Europe Championship. Namibia had a team which will likely differ to that which will play in RWC 2019 but the loss and the extent of it was no minor detail.

Spain’s next challenge is against former powerhouses Samoa. The Pacific Islanders are coming off defeats at the hands of the USA and Georgia. The match may see the debut of Mauricio Londoño Guañarita, a Colombian-born player contracted to  Sanitas Alcobendas Rugby in Spain.
