Match Preview – Paraguay vs Sudamérica XV

In a special attraction in Asunción Paraguay face the Sudamérica XV on Saturday. The fixture is to be the second of two matches for the South American composite side. The first saw the side downing Chile 38-21 last Saturday in Santiago.

At the time of publication the Paraguay line-up had not yet been released. Los Yácares are coached by former Jaguares (Super Rugby) Head Coach Raúl Pérez. He is to be up against Argentina’s Head Coach from 2013-2018, Daniel Hourcade.

Hourcade has retained Puma Diego Fortuny as captain for the match. Fortuny was a try-scorer in the win over Chile. He is to again lead the side from hooker. He will be joined by not only other Argentine players but also players from Uruguay and Colombia.

Fortuny will again be joined by Rodrigo Martínez in the front-row. Enrique Pieretto is not included with Hourcade instead naming Colombian Héctor Navarro at tight head. Iñaki Ustáriz and Felipe Aliaga lock the scrum while Uruguay’s Juan Manuel Rodríguez combines with Colombians Diver Ceballos, and Yerson Ortíz Cañas in the back-row.

The back line sees Domingo Miotti again named at fly half. He will partner Ignacio Inchauspe rather than Manuel Nogués in the starting 9-10 combination. Facundo Ferrario has been retained in the centers though moves from outside to inside center. He will team-up with Colombia’s Juan Davila.

In the back-three Argentine fullback Martín Elías retains the 15 shirt and will be joined by countryman Pablo Avellaneda and Colombian Jhon Arley Urrutia.

Today Paraguay is ranked 6th in South America. The country is behind Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Los Yákares go into Saturday’s match as firm underdogs. The Sudamérica XV are expected to complete a big win by 40 or more points.
