Chris Wyles has answered an SOS call to come out of retirement for Saracens. The 35-year-old former USA captain is in contention for Saturday’s English premiership match against the Sale Sharks.
Chris Wyles has temporarily come out of retirement and goes straight into contention to face Sale Sharks on Saturday.
The last appearance from Wyles on a rugby field was in May. It was for Saracens in the English Premiership final. In a perfect send-off Wyles ran in two tries, helping Saracens to a 27-10 title securing victory.
He joined Saracens in 2008 from the Northampton Saints. He would play in over 250 games for Saracens in the English Premiership and also appear in three RWCs – 2007, 2011 and 2015. He was a try scorer in all three tournaments, crossing against South Africa in 2007, Italy in 2011 and both Samoa and Japan in 2015.
Wyles’ retirement in May came with him securing his his sixth title. He is a four-time English Premiership champion (2011, 2015, 2016, 2018) and a two-time European Champions Cup winner (2016, 2017).
Saracens are presently low on player options. Liam Williams (Wales) and Sean Maitland (Scotland) are on international duty while David Strettle, Ali Crossdale, Matt Gallagher, Rotimi Segun and Duncan Taylor are out of action through injury.
