Uruguayan flanker Franco Lamanna has signed to play for Darlington Mowden Park. This sees him moving from SC Mazamétain in France to his new home in England. He will play for the club in the National League 1.
The signing comes with Lamanna now back to fitness following an operation on his knee. He is on track to make his debut in England on Saturday against Plymouth Albion.
Capped 43 times by Uruguay, Lamanna has been playing test rugby since 2012. He went to RWC 2015, playing against Wales, Australia, and Fiji. His most recent cap was against Canada in Montevideo, the match which saw his country qualifying for RWC 2019.
The 28-year-old has been in North East England over the past weeks. Now settled he has been confirmed on the club roster. He joins Canada’s Matt Heaton at the club. The pairing were the starting no 7’s for Uruguay vs Canada in Vancouver and Montpellier earlier this year.
Lamanna is expected to play in RWC 2019 and is projected to be in the starting line-up for Uruguay. His time in England will help him prepare well for 2019. It sees his professional career continuing to evolve. He left Carrasco Polo to play in Italy for CUS Perugia and is now playing in his fourth country.
