Brazil book two-match trip to Argentina

With no test matches on their schedule and riding a wave of optimism following the high-profile match against the Māori All Blacks on the weekend, Brazil have arranged a two-match tour of Argentina to fill the gap. They will play two leading provincial sides – Tucumán on Friday, November 23 and Salta on Tuesday, November 27.

Saturday’s match saw nearly 35,000 in attendance at the Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo. Os Tupis were defeated 35-3 but earned the admiration of many for their spirited performance that held the heavily-favored New Zealanders to only 14 first half points. The game was broadcast live on Twitter with thousands able to watch across the globe.

Tucumán are historically among the strongest of Argentina’s provinces, having won the Campeonato Argentino – the national provincial competition – on 11 occasions, most recently back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014. Salta have never won the title but have produced a number of international players. The Campeonato was suspended in 2018 in order to expand the regional and national club championships.
