Match Preview – Chile vs Sudamérica XV

With Belgium opting not to tour South American a special friendly has been arranged for Saturday to help Chile prepare for their upcoming clash with the Māori All Blacks next weekend. A Sudamérica XV has been created under the leadership of former Pumas coach Daniel Hourcade with fringe test players from Argentina and Uruguay combining.

Captaining the invitational side is Jaguares hooker Diego Fortuny, who finds another Pumas international in Enrique Pieretto on his right shoulder. Argentina XV regulars Diego Galetto and Franco Molina combine in the second row and two of Uruguay’s most promising loose forwards are on the flanks in blindside Gonzalo Soto Mera and openside Santiago Civetta.

Jaguares hopeful Domingo Miotti is given the nod ahead of Teros contender Andrés De León at flyhalf. Miotti is partnered with Pumitas starter Manuel Nogués in the halfbacks, with another Argentina u20 star Facundo Ferrario partnered with Teritos graduate Marcos Brovetto in the midfield. Gifted footballer Martín Elías will run out at fullback.

Pablo Lemoine takes charge of Los Condores for the first time and he has opted for continuity in on-field leadership with flanker Javier Richard named captain. Major League Rugby hopeful Ignacio Silva starts at No8 in a lightweight back row trio that sees top flanker Anton Petrowitsch shoved into the second row. Uncapped Francisco Pizarro will start at hooker and tighthead prop Alfonso Lepe makes his first appearance in a Chile shirt since 2010.

Experience mixes with talent in the halfbacks as the most-capped player in the squad Juan Pablo Perrotta partners rising star Santiago Videla. Another 20-year-old is named at inside center in uncapped Tomás Contreras, with Chile Sevens captain Felipe Brangier named at outside center. Tomás Ianiszewski and Pedro Verschae swap jerseys in the outside backs.

Kickoff is set for 5pm local time in Santiago.
