Utah signs Brazil flyhalf Josh Reeves

Utah have found their replacement for Kurt Morath. The Warriors have signed Brazil flyhalf Josh Reeves for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old is the first Tupis international to sign a contract after several recently played for the Rugby Americas Selects against Glendale.

Originally from New Zealand, Reeves qualifies for Brazil on residency after moving there with his Brazilian fiancée. The fluent Portuguese speaker has been a staple in the No10 shirt for the Tupis since his debut in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship and was part of the teams that beat Canada, the Argentina XV, and most recently the Georgia XV in Tbilisi.

Reeves is a like-for-like replacement in terms of kicking ability. The left-footer is renowned for his long-range goal kicking and tactical ability. He moves to a Utah team that has been quiet in the off-season but has added Glendale scrumhalf Jake Christmann behind the scenes.

More Brazil internationals are expected to be confirmed for MLR sides in the coming days.
