Three more join Eagles camp for November

Just a few days after calling up seven players to his US Eagles squad for the November international series, Gary Gold has summoned three more to join camp ahead of the opening match against the New Zealand Māori in Chicago. Recalled are prop Tony Purpura and lock Nate Brakeley, with new cap Mika Kruse joining the backs.

Brakeley and Kruse were both part of the USA Select XV that traveled to Montevideo for the Americas Pacific Challenge. The former is back in the picture after committing to Rugby United New York for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. 20-year-old Kruse was a breakthrough star for Glendale this past season, splitting his time between the midfield and wing.

It’s a World Cup lifeline for Purpura. The 31-year-old made just three reserve appearances during the Americas Rugby Championship and was not selected for the June tests. He started just one match for the San Diego Legion during their inaugural campaign. Capable of playing both sides of the scrum, he has most recently been spotted playing tighthead for Old Blue, prompting speculation that he is set to join Brakeley on the New York roster for the 2019 MLR season.

A detailed squad list can be seen here.
