COBS are Champions of Chile

COBS are the 2018 Champions of Chile. The club from Santiago defeated Old Boys 14-0 in the national club final on Saturday to be crowned national champions for the fifth time. Prior to winning the Top 8 Final this year COBS previously were Chile champions in 1980, 1991, 2013, and 2016.

The match was not only a national club final but it was also a Chilean classic rivalry. The traditional enemies, though, would not compete in an enthralling match on the field. Rather COBS would have the better of play and see their way to a comfortable victory.

COBS and Old Boys had notable local support with the presence of 3,000 in attendance at the Old Grangonian Club.

The path to the title began well for COBS. Right winger Tomás Salas landed two opening half penalties forn a 6-0 half time lead. His third penalty came in the 50th minute to extend the advantage. With 11 minutes remaining Cóndores back-rower Alfonso Escobar sealed the result by scoring the game’s only try.
