We are quickly approaching the mid-point of the RFU Championship season, a scary thought as it seems it has only just begun. London Irish remain unbeaten and favorites to make an immediate return to the Premiership, but there are others in the race who are keen to spoil the party.
A big match kicked off the weekend on Friday as Nottingham defeated Ealing 42-27 at Lady Bay. It’s just the second loss of the season for the Trailfinders, who started Segundo Tuculet on the wing and had Andrew Durutalo coming in off the bench. Nottingham were led by Shane O’Leary at flyhalf while Cam Dolan started at lock for the fourth straight match.
Saturday will see four Americas players suiting up at the Madejski. Bryce Campbell starts at inside center for home side London Irish, with Ciaran Hearn named on the bench. The Cornish Pirates are led again by Brett Beukeboom with Argentine dual-international Javier Rojas among the reserves.
Four more games will feature one notable each. Will Hooley starts for Bedford against Hartpury, and Ronnie McLean is in the midfield for Richmond at Jersey. Doncaster recall Nick Civetta in the second row against London Scottish, and Jake Ilnicki is a replacement for Yorkshire Carnegie against Coventry.
