Horacio Agulla has announced his retirement from rugby. The RWC 2007, 2011 and 2015 Pumas winger has said goodbye to the sport at the age of 34.
For Argentina his test career lasted from 2005-2015 and saw him earning 63 caps. His return was 6 tries, the most important being against Ireland in RWC 2007. The try was the second of his career as a Puma, the first came on debut against Samoa in 2005.
Two RWCs and eight years after scoring in Paris, Agulla crossed in Leicester. The Buenos Aires winger did so against Namibia in a return to a former home as Los Pumas faced Africa’s no 2 side in a RWC 2015 pool match.
Agulla would announce his test retirement following the RWC 2015 Bronze Final. The fixture was the second of his career, the first seeing him win the medal against France in RWC 2007.
The RWC 2007 tournament was career changing for Agulla. He was included in the tournament following injury to José Maria Nunez Piossek. Wit big boots to full Agulla went on to start in 6 of Argentina’s 7 games at the tournament, forming a combination with Lucas Borges.
Following the tournament Agulla began his professional career. He was snapped up by Dax to play in the Top 14. After one season he moved to Brive on a two-year-deal. From there he moved to the Leicester Tigers where he played for two further seasons before joining Bath, his home for four years. A return to France followed in 2016 where he ended his professional career with Castres.
Agulla appeared in the English Premiership final for the Leicester Tigers though it was Bath where he was at his best.
